STUDENT COUNCIL SHOES AND BEARS

The Wesley Academy Student Council provides students with opportunities for leadership roles in the school and to make charitable contributions to the community. In February, the Council has demonstrated their commitment to their roles and has participated in two important service projects that benefit the earthquake victims in Haiti.

Soles4Souls…way to go Stone!!!!

Stone Larkin, student council representative, stepped forward inviting and organizing his fellow council member’s participation in the Soles4Souls program.  Their mission is to collect shoes for victims of the 7.0 earthquake that devastated the Western Hemisphere’s poorest country, Haiti.  Wesley’s thirteen member council collected 44 pairs of gently used shoes that were donated to the Soles4Souls program.  The shoes will be shipped to Haiti to help the victims of the earthquake, many of whom lost everything.

Bear Hugs for Haiti

Council members also partnered with First Methodist Houston Westchase, Children and Family Ministries in collecting teddy bears and donating them to an orphan care and rescue center.  The council was able to collect and donate 30 teddy bears to the Bear Hugs for Haiti Program.

The priorities of the Student Council is to promote school pride, organize community service projects, and plan activities for students.  They will be coordinating one more school-wide event for the Star of Hope Mission during the month of April.
